Lederach Cancer Research Fund is a nonprofit organization that was founded in late 2011 by a group of friends and neighbors who wanted to contribute to the fight against cancer.

My name is Mike Romero, and I am the President of Lederach Cancer Research Fund. In Aug of 2011, I was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma and quickly underwent surgery to remove the tumor from my kidney. After recovering from my surgery, my neighbors and I decided that we wanted to be proactive in the fight against cancer and so we formed Lederach Cancer Research Fund. Because we all lived in the Lederach golf course community, it seemed a logical choice to have the biggest and best golf tournament we could have and at the same time raise money for cancer research.

From day one we have aligned ourselves with the great volunteers at Coaches vs Cancer, a division of the American Cancer Society.  While we are our own 501c3 charity, we donate approximately 90% of our proceeds to Coaches vs Cancer. The local branch of CvC is heavily involved in Philadelphia’s Fox Chase cancer center and more specifically is one of the primary funding sources of the Hope Lodge at Fox Chase.  The Hope Lodge gives hundreds of families yearly free room and board while they or a loved one is going through treatment at Fox Chase.  We donate the other 10% to smaller local based cancer causes that we think need our help.  A perfect example of this was a young boy in our neighborhood lost his fight with cancer at age 10.  We were able to donate $10,000 to his favorite charity Camp Sunshine. In our 10 years of running our charity we are lucky to have been able to raise and donate close to $650,000 to help fight this terrible disease.

It is with great pride that I invite you to play in or support our 13th annual Hackers vs Cancer golf tournament. Many strides have been made in the fight against cancer and my friends and I wanted to contribute in our own fun and special way. We hope you can join us for our golf tournament.
